Course Description

The Labyrinth is an archetype found in all religious traditions in various forms around the world. These singular paths meander inward to a center area, and are used as a tool for personal, psychological and spiritual transformation. Since we cannot see a straight path to our destination, the labyrinth is viewed as a metaphor for our lives. We learn to surrender to the path, allowing our subconscious minds to emerge, trusting that the path will lead us to the center and back out again. Walking a labyrinth can provide a sense of connectedness, peace and happiness by allowing a time-out from the stresses of daily life. Some people walk labyrinths to search for a deeper meaning of self while others walk labyrinths to request guidance or help in their lives. We will visit the permanent outdoor labyrinth at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Deerfield, which is a replica of the 12th century labyrinth laid into the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France. A labyrinth expert from the church will be our guide. St. Gregory's is located at Deerfield and Wilmot Roads in Deerfield.
