Course Description

Mississippi native William Faulkner’s Absalom, Absalom! published in 1936, is a stylistic masterpiece that revolutionized American literature. However, the novel is much more than that as it provides a unique lens depicting class, caste and race in Faulkner’s fictional Yoknapatawpha County before, during and after the Civil War. What Faulkner’s literary lens sees is painful and disturbing, yet ultimately revealing in its truths of American racial history. Richard Reeder will teach the class.
