Course Description

For this new course, taught by Emeritus instructor Francine J. Sanders, M.A., the focus is the role of cinematography in film. From the birth of cinema to present day, certain films stand out because of their ability to express meaning and emotion. We connect to films through imagery, color and shots. Explore how cinematographic choices work in these eight international screen gems, as well as a look at the cinematographers behind the choices. Possible films include: Citizen Kane, All that Heaven Allows, The Conformist, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Manhattan, In the Mood for Love, Night of the Hunter, Moonlight, and There Will Be Blood. Subscription to Amazon Prime is highly recommended. Films are subject to change.
