Course Description

Joan Rivers, a model for Midge Maisel in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” performed earthy in-your-face humor. She examined what it meant to be a modern woman through relationships with boyfriends and husbands, just as the rules of the game were changing. Her caustic, self-deprecating style set a pathway for women comedians to this day. Take a look at Rivers’ life and humor and explore contemporary women comics who have taken her brand and remade it into women taking control of their lives, including Sarah Silverman (who did an homage to Joan Rivers), Iliza Schlesinger, Wanda Sykes, and Tina Fey. Taught by longtime Oakton Emeritus instructor and adjunct professor at The Theatre School at DePaul University, David Y. Chack. No senior discount.
