Course Description

Born Mikhail Igor Peschkowsky in Germany, he made his way to the United States, but struggled through antisemitism, and economic and physical hardships. Recreating himself into a true American auteur, Mike Nichols never escaped his past. Explore his life (with fun anecdotes) and artistic vision through: a study of his early years, as one part of the comic genius of Nichols and May, plays/films he directed including The Odd Couple, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf, The Graduate, Heartburn, Angels in America, and more. Despite critical acclaim and overwhelming success, he felt ever in exile. Taught by David Y. Chack, longtime Oakton Emeritus instructor and professor at The Theatre School, DePaul University.
