Course Description

Ten years after the Constitution was signed, the nation was so fractured that some feared civil war. Those who had so recently fought Britain together were at each other’s throats. This course with Historian Joyce Haworth traces the first four administrations, the Cabinet battles under Washington, the politics around building Washington City, the federal government’s attack on political speech, the exploration of the West, and war with the British and the United Indian Nations under Tecumseh.
