Course Description

From the accession of Queen Isabella of Castile in 1474 to the abdication of Queen Christina of Sweden in 1654, women ruled in Western Europe to an extent not seen before or since. Over that period, seven queens ruled in their own right, and 16 as regents. This course with Historian Joseph S. Harrington, M.A., will examine the accomplishments and setbacks of these women called to rule in an era of religious and political upheaval. No senior discount.
