Course Description

A society’s attitude toward women, sex and reproduction can be mirrored in its response to abortion. From the 1850s, when it was first made illegal in this country, to 1973, when Roe v. Wade struck down the bans, to 2022, when that ruling was undone, abortion has been divisive. Sometimes central to a story, sometimes peripheral, it has been a surprisingly frequent subject in films. Join Alan P. Barr, Ph.D., film and literature professor, for an all-too-timely discussion of such films as Happening, Never Rarely Sometimes Always, and 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.
